The sun is shining, summer is almost here and lots of hard work is being put into Vampire Smile. So much blood, sweat and tears that our little Gato tuckered herself out and needed a rest. Then again, she doesn’t really do anything more than lay around anyway … perhaps laying around is just as tiring as actually developing a game?

Testing And (Yup) More Testing
Testing. That’s the word that best describes what this week has been about. Testing Vampire Smile‘s co-op support, testing arcade levels, testing leaderboards and testing to make sure achievements do the “bleep bloop” thing. While I realize this news isn’t really all that exciting or glamorous, it’s a fact of development. One week you’re animating lovely pictures, other weeks you are coming up with creative ideas and other times you are just testing. This week was a testing week. That’s really it.
Fishing For Merch Feedback
We launched the official Ska Studios online store a few months back and now we think that it’s a good time to get some feedback. If you purchased anything from the store (or at our PAX booth) let us know what you think about your Ska branded goods. Additionally, we’re kicking around the idea of adding new items to the catalog later this year. If you have a merchandise request or idea, speak up and share your wisdom. It’s all about you, what you want, what you like and what makes you happy. Share your thoughts.

Good Morning Gato #8 – Secret Gargoyle Mission Activate

Another seven days have passed since our last update, which is exactly the number of Gato sleep cycles that have occurred during the week and the number of times Gato walked in front of James’ monitor. In exactly seven days from now, we’ll be in Boston, showing off The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile and Charlie Murder and anxiously hoping that you enjoy them as much as we do.

When we announced GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES‘ 200,000 sales milestone a few weeks back, I couldn’t help but satisfy my urge to use the massive amount of spreadsheet data to make graph awesomeness. (It’s true, I have a weird “thing” for making image based representations of data.) We’ve talked about PAX East for weeks and weeks now, not only because we’re excited to see what gaming goodness will be shown off, but mainly because this is the first expo Ska Studios is exhibiting at. If you will not be attending PAX and really wish that we would stop talking about it, then know that in about a week’s time PAX will have wrapped up and we will have gone back to our normal business. Phew, what a week! Not only did we announce a major sales milestone AND hold a nifty Twitter giveaway, but we also got around to finally launching our online store of merchandise greatness. The number 200,000. It’s the average number of glasses of milk a cow provides in her lifetime and is now the number of copies I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES 1NIT!!!1 has sold on Xbox LIVE Indie Games. (Celebratory cheer!) It’s obviously quite the sales accomplishment that you helped us achieve and (from what we understand) makes it the best selling Indie Games title of all time. Let us all raise our glasses of chilled milk to continued Z0MB1ES success and another 200,000. Bottoms up.

Hot and Fresh Merchandise. Come Get Some!
The Ska Studios online store. Every week for the past month we talked about it, teased about what products it would house and gave vague answers to when it would open up. Well, friends, forget all that prior talk because the Ska Studios online store is now open for business!

We partnered with the dudes over at Merch Lackey who will ultimately be the ones you hand over your money to and direct all customer service inquiries at. But James is the one who actually designed the goods and was able to fill the online store with gruesomely fashionable Vampire Smile t-shirts, tour trendy Charlie Murder wearables, Z0MB1ES threads and a couple high quality posters. Swing over to the online store and take a look around or stop by our PAX East booth from March 26-28th where we’ll have the complete Ska Studios collection available for purchase.

Inside the virtual store you’ll find four t-shirt designs crafted by Mr. James Silva from games including The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile, Charlie Murder and GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES. Not only that, but we have super high quality Vampire Smile and Charlie Murder posters as well.

Good Morning Gato #5 – The Vampire Cat Smiles

The Fervor Shine countdown has expired and the metaphorical cat is out of the bag. This week, we let the world know that The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile is really real and releasing to the Xbox LIVE Arcade “when it’s done.” Exciting news, isn’t it?

The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile
You’ve heard correctly, The Dishwasher sequel is in development and is going to be pretty darn sweet and extremely violent too. If you’re one of the half dozen folks who has yet to watch the announcement trailer, it’s recommended you watch it now and be wowed. The official Vampire Smile website will be continually updated with the latest media and updates, so if you’re looking for Vampire Smile goods without all the Ska Studios talk, go there.

This week’s other big news is the confirmation that The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile will be playable (for the first time ever) to the gaming masses during PAX East. If you’ll be attending, be sure to swing by the Ska booth to play Vampire Smile and Charlie Murder, mingle a bit and be happy.

Merch
Merchandise is very, very close to being finalized and should be available for purchase via our online store next week (pending any cataclysmic production disasters). At launch, we’ll have a mix of Charlie Murder, Vampire Smile and Z0MB1ES t-shirts and quality posters all at reasonable prices. We aren’t in the business of telling people what to do, but if we were, we would say go prepare for the store’s opening by violently smashing your piggybank into pieces and harvesting its coin innards. Don’t worry, your piggy knew this day would come and will hold no grudges.

Good Morning Gato #4 – Alarming Developments

The overall atmosphere at Ska Studios is a rich blend of excitement and anticipation with a subtle undertone of anxiety. Even the company cats have been infected with the fervorous feeling, causing them to act as if they have been on a 72 hour catnip bender with not a wink of sleep. It’s truly that intense here at Ska HQ and for good reason.

Fervor Shine!
Word across the interwebs is that The Dishwasher has become the spokesperson for a brand of Japanese dish detergent called Fervor Shine! While we can’t deny or confirm The Dishwasher’s involvement with Fervor Shine – mainly due to the fact that he can only be contacted via his agent who is unreachable as he’s going through a bitter divorce and is attempting to escape his feelings with an extended stay in Las Vegas – we can commit to keeping you updated with the facts when we get more clarity on the situation.

That said, those Fervor Shine folks know how to get on our good side, because out of all the things Ska Studios enjoys in life, a good old fashioned countdown clock ranks high on that list. Our expectations grow with each passing second and we can’t help but wonder what happens when there are no more ticks to tock and the clock strikes zero.

Ska Wearable Goods Update
Here’s a quick update on the upcoming release of Ska branded wearables, presented in a semi-creative Q&A format where we act as if we were answering real, fan submitted questions:

Q: Are you done designing those super awesome Ska Studios t-shirts yet?
A: Yes sir (or ma’am), we’re done with the designs! James put digital pen to paper and churned out some darn amazing tee artwork.

Q: So, can we see those designs now?
A: Whoa partner, not just yet. It’s called patience. Be patient.

Q: But I have all this money that I want to spend on your goodies.
A: Good point. We like your money and will take it from you in exchange for product in a few weeks time. That’s a promise.

Q: Will we get to see Gato modeling the new clothing?
A: Actually, that’s an interesting idea. One that could turn out to be rather adorable or end up with PETA knocking on our door in protest. We’ll consider it.

Don’t forget, “the goods” will be available for purchase in our online store and at our PAX East booth. Be sure to save your pennies.

Let’s Wrap This Up Like A Burrito
