It’s a super short update this week, because it’s “vacation season” here at Ska Studios and I have a plane to catch. As a result, Gato is one depressed cat. Nobody invited her to go on vacation, so she has to keep her adorable yellow eyes at home and wait for our arrival. Don’t feel too bad for her, because the last time she traveled, our little Gato ended up with a horrible case of motion sickness and suffered from “crazy-insane freaked-out cat disorder”.

Music To My Ears
We heard you loud and clear: You wanted access to the musical awesome that is The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile soundtrack. I really don’t blame you, it’s quite the magical mix of awesome rock tunes, intense beats and emotional riffs. That’s why I worked with James earlier this week to not only make the Vampire Smile soundtrack available, but also music from Dead Samurai and Z0MBIES. I should also mention that all the music is available for the going rate of “pay whatever you want!”

Be sure to check out all the awesome Dishwasher and Z0MBIES tunes at the bandcamp hosted online music store at music.ska-studios.com. And to those who have been requesting Vampire Smile guitar solos, you can expect a separate guitar solo album in the future as well as some ZP2KX audio greatness. Stay tuned.

Good Morning Gato #45 – Checkerboard Cat

I accidentally broke my glasses into two pieces last night. I can barely read what’s on my computer screen which ultimately means that you’re in for a short edition of Good Morning Gato. But all is not lost, because there is ZP2KX news to share, including a first look at the content that’ll be a part of the next game update.

ZP2KX v2.0.6
After surpassing the 10,000 sales milestone (yay!) it’s time to let the metaphorical Gato out of the bag regarding the game’s first update.

Basically, the update (which will now and forever be referred to as “v2.0.6″) is now finished and will likely be placed into peer review in the next week. And for fear of sounding like a broken record, I’m not going to go into detail regarding how long after the peer review submission it takes to actually make its way to your Xbox. It’ll take some time, so again I ask for your patience™.

As far as what ZP2KX v2.0.6 brings to the table, I can confirm that known exploits and glitches are fixed (die exploits DIE!) and balancing tweaks have been made for weapons, skills and game types. But that isn’t all. The update will also come packed with a few new Mutators AND a brand new multiplayer map called “The Harvest”, which you can peep below. Also, be on the lookout for a new ZP2KX v2.0.6 trailer that’ll show off some new “The Harvest” gameplay, a few ZP2KX reaction quotes and an EPIC “Zombies & Pterodactyls” song written and performed by Mr. Silva. Oh yes, friends, you’re in for a treat.

Our pals over at Microsoft Game Studios just posted an Xbox LIVE Marketplace deal, where if you buy 1600 Microsoft points worth of featured content, you’ll get 400 points credited back to your account. And, yes, The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai is considered “featured content”.

The Holiday Offers from Microsoft Game Studios promotion runs from now through Monday, November 22nd and actually sports a pretty solid list of eligible content. Dead Samurai is a must-buy (of course), but you’ll need to add an additional 800 MS points worth of content to your virtual cart, so may I recommend Splosion Man, N+, Duke Nukem 3D or any of the eligible Game Add-Ons you deem worthy. Good Morning Gato #14 – Blerg!

It would be an understatement to describe this week’s Good Morning Gato as “newsy”. It’s more than that. So much so that we feel the words “extreme newsy to the max” best describes this week’s update. Is your interest piqued? It should be.

Charlie Murder Joins Team XBLA
On Wednesday, we were finally able to clear up the release confusion surrounding Charlie Murder. As the story goes, Charlie Murder was announced back in January as an Xbox LIVE Indie Games title for release in March. Time went on, we showcased the game at PAX East and, well … March came and went. At that time lots of folks were understandably perplexed by the lack of information. But now we can stand up on our soap box to proudly talk about the “whys” that answer the “whats” and “whens”.

Over the past few months, we were able to strike a new deal with the band and bring Microsoft on board to publish the Charlie Murder story to the big leagues; the Xbox LIVE Arcade. The terms of the deal are not being made public, but what we can confirm is that the entire Charlie Murder crew is heading to the Happy Times Recovery Center in Atlantic City to complete a mandatory one year rehab stint. You can read more about the announcement as well as Charlie’s reaction to the partnership via this press release.

We also wanted to let everyone know that the transition from Indie Games to Xbox LIVE Arcade means that the scope of the project has changed dramatically. James will be working with the band to create way more content than was originally planned and at a scale worthy of the Xbox LIVE Arcade. The only negative in this ball of happiness is that all of these changes, mixed with the band’s rehab commitment, have resulted in the game being pushed back to 2012. So, if we survive the predicted end of the world, we all will be experiencing the truly epic punk rock story that is Charlie Murder. It’s a long wait, but one that is well worth it.
